Welcome, Trent!

Meet our newest CurlyRed web design intern, Trent Bergman!

Trent, please tell us a bit more about yourself:

1. Where are you attending school ? What is your concentration? What’s your dream
career?
I graduated with two associate degrees from Garrett College: Computer Science and General Studies. I'd love to become a self-sustaining indie video game developer one day!

2. What do you love about art and/or technology?
Video games. The blend of art, technology, music, and audience-engagement permits a lot of artistic expression. If you'd like to see my games, which you can play on your computer's browser (for free and without any downloads), visit my webpage

3. Why is web design a good fit for your personality?
Web design allows me to blend technology with my creativity. It is a puzzle of what looks good, is intuitive, and is what people want. As someone who loves puzzles I would believe this is a fantastic fit for my personality.

4. Why did you want to intern for CurlyRed?
I learned of the company through my professor, Mark Ludwig, who is the Vice President of CurlyRed. He helped me reframe my understanding of and inspire my confidence in my own artistic abilities while also teaching me a suite of practical skills. There's always more to learn, so if I can help out CurlyRed while picking up more invaluable skills, that'd be a win-win.

5. What’s the most important thing you’ve learned up to this point as an artist?
I know I can't do it all, so I’ve learned to find and work with individuals whose strengths complement my weaknesses and mine theirs.

6. How will this internship change the way you approach your career?
I'm excited to be on the ground working with creative professionals and building meaningful experience in the field of design.

7. What is your current approach to technology?
Get messy first, then refactor. Get a second opinion, refactor further.

8. Why do you think someone should choose CurlyRed for their creative needs?
CurlyRed is the creative beacon of Oakland. Their work can be found all over town and beyond. They are a people-first organization whose designs perfectly capture their clients’ vision.

9. What’s your favorite typeface and why?
Comic Code. It is unabashedly inspired by Comic Sans but reads great on a computer screen. To those of you who winced, I like pineapple on pizza too. 😛

We're only judging a teensy tiny bit. We're excited to see what you learn, Trent!
